Work-from-Thailand Professional Visa

The Work-from-Thailand Professional category is intended for remote employees working for established overseas businesses.

It is more selective than an ordinary digital nomad visa. Eligibility depends not only on the applicant’s income but also on the size, operating history and financial profile of the overseas employer.

Personal Income Requirements

Applicants generally need average personal income of at least USD 80,000 per year during the two years before applying.

Applicants earning between USD 40,000 and USD 80,000 may qualify if they also satisfy an additional criterion, such as:

• Holding a master’s degree or higher

• Owning qualifying intellectual property

• Working in connection with a business that has received at least USD 1 million in Series A funding

The 2025 update removed the previous work-experience requirement.

Employer Requirements

The applicant must generally work for:

• A public company listed on a recognised stock exchange

• A private company operating for at least three years with combined revenue of at least USD 50 million during the previous three years

• An eligible wholly owned subsidiary able to rely on the qualifying parent company’s financial position

Employment contracts, company registrations, audited accounts and ownership records may be required.

Is This the Same as a Digital Nomad Visa?

Not exactly.

The Work-from-Thailand category targets highly paid remote employees of established foreign businesses. Freelancers, small-business owners and remote workers employed by newer or smaller companies may not satisfy the employer criteria.

Applicants should assess both their personal income and their employer’s eligibility before preparing the application.

Can Remote Workers Work for a Thai Company?

Work-from-Thailand visa holders are approved on the basis that they work remotely for an overseas employer.

The BOI states that a standard digital work permit is not issued for this foreign remote work because there is no Thai employer. A temporary permit for work involving a Thai company may be considered separately on a case-by-case basis.

Insurance and Financial Requirements

Applicants must generally demonstrate qualifying insurance, Thai social security or a bank balance of at least USD 100,000 maintained for 12 months.
